Scholarships for Brazilian students: 'Science without Borders Holland'
On Friday 16 March Nuffic and the Brazilian national Council for Scientific and technological Development (CNPq) will officially launch the Science without Borders scholarship programme. The programme offers Brazilian students a scholarship to do a study or conduct a research programme at a Dutch higher education institution.
Brazil’s booming economy encouraged the focus on internationalisation within Brazilian higher education. The Brazilian government announced a plan to invest US$ 2.02 billion in 75,000 scholarships that will offer Brazilian students the opportunity to study at the world’s top universities.
The scholarships will primarily be given to students who study in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Health sciences, Life sciences and Mathematics, as these subjects are considered subjects of strategic national importance.
Initially, Science without Borders Holland wil focus on Brazilian bachelor's students. Later on, the programme will also offer scholarships for PhDs and Post-doctoral studies.
The Science without Borders programme makes it possible for Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences to work and cooperate more closely with Brazilian higher education institutions and to increase student intake from Brazil.
Within Brazil the Netherlands is especially known for its international reputation of the quality of its education and for the courses taught in English at Dutch institutions.
