Nuffic has published reports of a survey held by our Neso offices among prospective students who showed interest in studying abroad. The reports give insight into who these students are, how their decision to go abroad comes about and what image they have of Dutch higher education.

Outcomes

The survey results per country are published in separate reports and in addition there is an overall report with collective data of all countries. The outcomes show substantial differences between prospective students from the different Neso countries, for example in the fields of study they are interested in and the level at which they want to study abroad.

The results also indicate that there are regional differences; prospective students from Asia appear to be more capable or willing to fund their study abroad themselves. Also they are more focused on studying abroad as a means to broaden their view of life and the world.

The outcomes of the prospective students surveys provide insight into the education markets of the Neso countries. However, as explained in the reports, these insights are not necessarily complete or conclusive.

How can you use the reports?

The knowledge generated by the survey results allows Dutch higher education institutions to optimise their recruitment, communication, and marketing strategies.

You can draft recruitment strategies on the basis of macro outcomes presented in the overall report. This report compares the outcomes of nine Neso countries (for Brazil no data was available).

The communication and marketing strategies can benefit most from the country-specific reports. These reports give an extensive overview of the outcomes of the main target groups: secondary education and undergraduate students and employed respondents.

The outcomes of the overall report on the prospective students survey will also be presented in the Neso feedback group meeting on 18 December 2012.
