During his recent visit to Jakarta, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans hosted an event for more than 70 alumni representing a wide range of Dutch higher education institutions. The event at the Erasmus Huis in Jakarta was organised by the Embassy and Nuffic Neso Indonesia.

Shared DNA

“Indonesia and the Netherlands have 400 years of shared history”, Minister Timmermans said on his visit to Indonesia. “We also share DNA – quite literally. Indonesia is developing fast economically, and from a political point of view it is playing an important and constructive political role in the region. The country is a priority for us.”

The Netherlands and Indonesia will work together more closely on water management, infrastructure, urban planning and agriculture. The two countries will also consider ways of helping students to study in each other’s countries.

Connections

During the alumni reception Minister Timmermans emphasised the importance of connections between people and countries. He encouraged the alumni to actively engage in activities that connect them with one another in person or through social media. He then took some pictures with his iPhone and posted these instantly on his Facebook page.

Use your alumni network

Nuffic Neso Indonesia has access to more than 6,500 Indonesian Holland Alumni through its database. We encourage Dutch higher education institutions to make use of that network for all their activities in Indonesia, including alumni events, seminars and dinners, support in promotion efforts and assistance in setting up institutional cooperation.

Please feel free to contact Nuffic Neso Indonesia for advice and information.
