How to keep in touch with alumni
Keeping in touch with Holland Alumni is becoming more and more important, to retain them as knowledge workers. To support the maintenance of good alumni relations, Nuffic offers introductory training modules for alumni associations and alumni officers of Dutch higher education institutions.
Four new topics have been added to the existing three training modules that have been online on the Holland Alumni website since 2009:
- Strategic planning for policymaking on alumni management
- Organisational management of regional alumni chapters
- Online communication and resources
- Maintaining an international alumni database
Video sessions
The new topics were covered during a two-day training that took place in The Hague in November 2011. The sessions were captured on video and are part of the online training material.
The material also includes a self-test that participants can take after completing the training. Additional background information is provided in the form of articles.
Catch up or refresh
Those who were unable to attend the November training can use the modules to catch up and the participants can use the online material as a refresher.
The importance of alumni relations
Alumni can play an important role as ambassadors for Dutch higher education in general and for individual education institutions in particular. Many prospective students are eager to hear real-life experiences of students that have already lived and studied in Holland. For this reason, alumni can play a key role in promotion activities.
Alumni have learned to work with the Dutch and they understand the culture, so they can be a valuable asset for foreign businesses trading with Holland. Therefore, the Dutch knowledge economy as a whole can benefit from good relations with Holland Alumni.

The initial three online training modules are still available too. They offer step-by-step guides to volunteer management, fundraising, and networking, to support alumni associations and institutions in their alumni work.
