Four new market research reports
Competitor activities are still expanding in both the Chinese and Indonesian education market. Neso China and Nuffic Neso Indonesia analysed the competition in their respective countries. Nuffic Neso Korea and the Neso Desks in India published a report on the outcomes of a survey among parents of prospective students.
The competitor analysis
It seems that competitors on the education market in China are creating more and more branch campuses in China. Also, the number of competitors and the intensity of their activities is still expanding in China. This shows in the increased activity of Scandinavian countries.
On the Indonesian education market competition is also increasing. An interesting trend is the increased cooperation of foreign higher education institutions with local agents and the increased focus of the US on Indonesia.
The competitor analysis in these two countries lists the most active recruiting countries and active foreign higher education institutions. Specific attention is given to national policies, the products they promote and the market approaches of foreign higher education institutions. Lessons are drawn for the Netherlands and the Dutch higher education institutions on these aspects.
Parents survey
Parents can be important influencing factors in the decision making process of prospective students. This is especially so for the younger prospective students, because in many cases the parents are the ones who, to a large extent, fund the studies abroad.
For this reason parents were interviewed to retrieve information on their expectation and preferences for the study abroad of their children. The parents were also asked about the sources they use to collect information on studying abroad.
The survey held in India shows that parents are very much concerned about the safety of their children when studying abroad and that the parents have a strong influence on especially the choice of destination country.
Compared to Indian parents, it appears that Korean parents give their children a much larger role in the decision making process. Korean parents support the decision making process by collecting information on study abroad destinations.
