Fairs: personal contact in an online world
These days, many institutions are increasing their focus on online promotion and reducing their number of visits to the regions. In many Neso countries however, personal contact at education fairs is important for making a decision on studying abroad.
Nuffic will continue to invest in fair participation in 2012, with a special focus on Turkey and Latin America.
High visitor numbers in 2011
Despite a slight decrease in participation of Dutch higher education institutions, the 2011 fairs that Nuffic participated in were very successful. Visitor numbers were high and feedback was good.
For the first time, Nuffic Neso Brazil joined DAAD and CampusFrance in organising the 2011 EHEF in Sao Paolo in November. In the same month we also participated in the new Edufairs in Turkey, which took place in Ankara, Istanbul and various other cities.
Focus on Latin America and Turkey
This year Nuffic will maintain its focus on participation in fairs in the ten Neso countries. In addition, we will focus on Latin America, especially on Argentina, Chile and Colombia. Several partner countries are already active in this region and we will join them at education fairs.
The year 2012 also marks 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey. This centenary will be celebrated in many fields, including the higher education sector. Education activities involving both countries, such as the Dutch participation in the Turkey education fairs, will have a special anniversary theme.
Fairs still important
Many students and parents prefer to get face-to-face information from representatives of education institutions or alumni. Fair participation, combined with online marketing activities, is therefore highly recommended.
More cost effectiveness
We are looking at ways to integrate Dutch fair participation into more comprehensive visit programmes, including talks with local partners about institutional cooperation. Combining fairs and other promotion activities should make participation more cost effective for Dutch higher education institutions.
