Enhanced water management training in Ethiopia through NPT
An NPT project aimed to strengthen water sector organisations in Ethiopia has resulted in a wealth of resources for training in water management.
The project, titled Strengthening Ethiopian universities in integrated river basin management (NPT-ETH-205), ran from March 2009 to June 2012. It increased the capability of Ethiopian universities in delivering capacity building services and disseminating relevant research results on integrated river basin management to relevant water sector organisations in the country.
Working together
The project was implemented with Addis Ababa University (AAU) and seven other Ethiopian universities (Arba Minch, Bahir Dar, Dilla, Haramaya, Hawassa, Jimma, Mekelle) in Ethiopia. They were assisted by a Dutch providing consortium made up of UNESCO-IHE, Wageningen University, MetaMeta, Vrije Universiteit and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
It focused on the development of academic and professional expertise at the Ethiopian universities involved. It also established a university - water sector partnership that enhances collaboration between these two sectors. The project has now come to an end, leaving a wealth of resources for training purposes behind that will benefit future generations.
DVDs produced by the project
A series of DVDs have been developed, covering many important topics. They reflect the multidisciplinary character of water management and water issues, ranging from water science, engineering and modelling to managerial, policy and social issues. The following DVDs, containing literature, lecture notes, power point presentations and/or videos, are highly relevant for students, teachers and any professional working in the water sector, in Ethiopia or elsewhere:

- Course materials "Itegrated river basin management" (seventeen MSc level courses)
- Videos "Water management in motion"(six thematic DVDs including 60 videos, tutorials and key references)
- Videos "Water management in Ethiopia"

- Videos water and soil laboratory tests
