The online population in Mexico has grown with 33% since Nuffic Neso’s report on online behaviour last year. This is one of the interesting developments in the quickly-changing online world in Mexico, included in the latest edition of the report. It will provide Dutch higher education institutions with information on how to reach Mexican students.

Currently about 40 million Mexicans, mainly in the age group of 18 to 34 years old, use the internet on a daily basis. For one-fifth of the students surveyed by Nuffic Neso Mexico the internet is the most important source of information for studying abroad.

Social media

Another interesting trend is how Mexican students use the internet. Whereas in the past they mainly used the web to find information, nowadays ‘interaction’ is the keyword. Mexico has seen an explosive growth of Facebook users in the last two years. Currently 90% of all internet users have a profile on a social media site, although it might not always be active.

Reports

Online behaviour reports are available for all Neso countries. Apart from information about the  online behaviour of students or prospective students, these reports contain data on the most popular web portals, websites and social networking websites. Dutch institutions can use these reports as a basis for their online promotion strategy and activities in the Neso countries.

The updated report for Mexico is available on the Nuffic market information website (login required).
