Regulated professions

Regulated professions may only be practised with the permission of the competent authority. Access to these professions is regulated by law.

There is a competent authority for each regulated profession. This authority decides whether you are entitled to access to the profession in the host country. Examples of regulated professions include those of nurse or teacher.

The number and types of regulated professions differ greatly in all EU member states. The European Commission’s website provides a list of regulated professions in each country.

Please note that the list of regulated professions may be incomplete. For this reason, always contact the National Contact Point for Professional Recognition (NCP) of the country in which you wish to base yourself.

The relevant NCP will be able to provide further assistance. View the contact details of all NCPs.
