Incoming mobility
Nuffic is the central point of contact in the Netherlands for the evaluation of foreign diplomas awarded for higher education and general secondary education.
Nuffic issues approximately 11,000 written evaluations each year. Most applications come from:
- Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences that need to know if a foreign student is qualified for a specific study programme;
- individuals with foreign credentials who wish to enter the Dutch labour market. This group applies under the national international credential evaluation system (known as IDW), organised by Nuffic in conjunction with SBB (the Foundation for Cooperation on Vocational Education, Training and the Labour Market). More information: www.idw.nl;
- government and government bodies;
- Dutch students wishing to use their student grant/loan entitlement for study abroad. The department determines the equivalence, level and orientation of the foreign programme on behalf of DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs).
Nuffic's Diploma Recognition Department is also responsible for issuing Nuffic Certificates to Chinese students wishing to study in the Netherlands. This certificate requires a positive verification of the applicant’s English proficiency exam result and educational background. Nuffic receives approximately 3,000 requests for such certificates each year.
