The maximum budget for this project is € 1 million.

Organisations

This four-year project has been developed by Sana'a High Institute of Health Sciences (HIHS). The tender for this project expired on 4 November 2010.

Nuffic has awarded this tender to MUNDO, which has formed a consortium with Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.

Project description

At present, public and private health services mostly depend on foreign nursing staff as local staff lack important skills. HIHS graduates do not possess the required quality in terms of local and regional labour market needs. This is due to a shortage of learning resources and to the fact that curricula are outdated and that low-quality teaching methods are being used.

The HIHS has no well-organized policies and practices regarding gender issues. It also lacks internal quality assurance systems. The institutional capacity of its management is weak. Finally, the management of HIHS's (academic and non-academic) human resources should be improved.

On a national level, there is not yet a national accreditation system, with national standards. The HIHS, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher education need to develop these national standards.

Objectives

The overall objective of this project is to improve the institutional capacity of Sana'a HIHS to meet national labour market needs by training highly qualified (male and female) graduates.

The specific objectives are:

  • to improve paramedics teaching quality assurance systems.
  • to accredit the nursing and health statistics programmes.
  • to develop a gender policy.
  • to align HIHS's educational offer with local labour market needs.
  • to align HIHS's educational offer with local labour market needs.
