Project description
This project will strengthen the education offer in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at two large universities in Hanoi:
- Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE)
- Water Resources University (WRU)
The project has the following specific objectives:
- Strengthening WRU's capacity to integrate research in its education offer, with an emphasis on applied research, problem solving and the integration of case studies.
- Strengthening HUNRE's capacity to review, innovate and improve its education programmes and make responsive to the needs of the IWRM sector.
- Strengthening and further develop the education offer on IWRM at HUNRE and WRU to meet national and regional needs.
- Strenghtening collaboration between HUNRE, WRU and their (international) networks to improve the quality and relevance of their programmes.
The project encompasses the integration of gender sensitive issues and approaches and professional manpower needs with regard to IWRM and climate change in Vietnam.
Vulnerable to climate change
Vietnam is among the five most vulnerable-to-climate change countries and it recognises the need to develop and implement national and local policies for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Towards a Water and Climate Network
In line with these national needs, Vietnam and the Netherlands have agreed that NICHE should partly contribute to the development of a Water and Climate network through the exchange of scientific results and support for curriculum development at Vietnamese universities and post-secondary higher education institutes.
