Project description
Tanzania has made pro-poor economic growth one of the three pillars of its Poverty Reduction Strategy (MKUKUTA). Private sector development is seen as essential to achieving this, but it requires a workforce that is well skilled, creative, innovative, highly dynamic and gender sensitive. Poor performance of the private sector is attributed to the absence of the abovementioned characteristics.
The provision of technical education and training is regarded as one of the essential preconditions for private sector development in Tanzania. This is where the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) comes in. NACTE is a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral body overseeing and coordinating the provision of technical education and training in Tanzania.
This project aims to:
- improve the labour market responsiveness of the training programmes offered by Technical Institutes (TIs);
- enhance the employability of their graduates.
In addition, it will address the core function of NACTE and its consortium partners the College of Business Education (CBE) and the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD). This will include a review of organisational procedures, structures and guidelines.
Finally, the project will focus on:
- delivering and developing entrepreneurial and gender sensitive curricula;
- developing and frameworks to link TIs with the private sector;
- setting up an effective M&E system.
