South Sudan
The NICHE identification process in South Sudan has resulted in the selection of two sectors: agriculture and water. On this page you can read more about the objectives and focus of NICHE in South Sudan. You can also download an edited web version of the Programme Outline.
NICHE will focus on the priorities of the Government of South Sudan. These have been defined through a couple of missions, stakeholder consultations and desk reviews. Particular attention will be given to donor coordination.
In South Sudan NICHE will focus on the following two sectors:
- agriculture, including animal husbandry;
- water, with a focus on rural drinking water and sanitation.
Priority will be given to the development of training and education institutions in agriculture and water for low to mid-level workforce.
Agriculture
South Sudan's agriculture sector consists primarily of subsistence farming. The government is keen to increase production, initially to offer food security. In the long term it wants agriculture to become one of the country's main economic pillars.
Water
South Sudan is facing a number of challenges in the water and sanitation sector. They include a lack of human capacity, a clear strategy on capacity development, and sanitation awareness.
