The project has been developed by the Escola Superior de Ciências Náuticas (ESCN). The tender for this project expired on 31 March 2011. Nuffic has awarded this tender to STC Group BV.
Project description
ESCN trains merchant marine officers. It offers the following courses:

Maritime Navigation;

Marine Engineering Machinery;

Mechanical Engineering and Control Systems;

Electronics and Telecommunications;

Maritime Law;
-
Economics and Management of Ports.
In addition, it offers short courses in specific areas, gives advice on policymaking related to the maritime sector and provides technical assistance to government bodies and maritime companies.
ESCN wishes to further strengthen its management capacities, through an institutional assessment and a multi-year strategy plan for sustainable institutional development.
Currently, planning is done based on the guidelines of the central government regarding the operation of public institutions within higher education.
The project aims to contribute to enhancing the maritime sector with better qualified graduates, while increasing ESCN's institutional capacity to offer good-quality gender-balanced education, in line with labour market demand.
