Mozambique

The NICHE identification process in Mozambique has resulted in the selection of five sectors: Higher Education, Water and Sanitation, Health, Growth & Equity and Governance. The NICHE programme builds on the investments made during preceding programmes such as MHO (Dutch Co-financing Programme for Higher Education) and NPT (Netherlands Programme for the Institutional Strengthening of Post secondary Education and Training Capacity). NICHE is a demand-oriented and needs-based programme. This means that the relevant national authorities, the EKN and Nuffic select the sectors, themes and institutions to be supported.

The NICHE programme in Mozambique will be implemented in order to:

facilitate the ongoing Higher Education reforms, in terms of policies and practices, at the national and local level;
help improve efficiency and accelerate progress in achieving post-secondary education goals;
help improve the quality of performance and the competencies of professionals, at the national and local level, and the quality of teaching and research capacity;
contribute to ‘linking and learning’ activities between post-secondary educational institutions in Mozambique and abroad.

Sectors and focus areas

Within this scope, the NICHE programme in Mozambique will focus on the following sectors and areas, paying specific attention to the correlation between the sectors, professional training, the link between education and the labour market and the creation of opportunities for women:

Higher Education

Higher education governing structures, including management and sector co-ordination capacities; strengthening of TVET and alignment with the labour market.
