Project budget

The maximum budget for this project is € 1.5 million.

Organisations

This project has been developed by PUSDIKLAT. The tender for this project expired on 25 April 2012. Nuffic has awarded this tender to Gender and Water Alliance (GWA), which has formed a consortium with UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education.

Project description

The responsibility for training and education in the water sector lies with the Ministry of Public Works and its training institution Pusat Pendidikan dan Pelatihan (PUSDIKLAT). One of the main constraints is the lack of skilled human resources in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

This project aims to strengthen PUSDIKLAT's capacity with regard to:

  • offering functional and academic education and training programmes on IWRM and Water Infrastructure Management.
  • facilitating gender mainstreaming and linking IWRM training to the requirements of the Directorate General of Water Resources and its working units at provincial and residence level.

In Indonesia water supply is under serious threat. There is pressure to tackle environmental degradation, overpumping of ground water and pollution. This requires a holistic approach to water (quality) management and new principles.

Traditionally, water management practices gave higher priority to construction and infrastructure. The new IWRM-based water law shifts the focus to management.
