Project description
This project aims to strengthen the capacity of Addis Ababa University, Jimma University, Hawassa University, Mizan-Tepi University and Arba-Minch University in the field of Natural Resource Management (NRM) and (eco)tourism. This will enable them to deliver quality gender-sensitive education and training and conduct relevant research.
Specifically, it seeks to improve the quality and quantity of male and female staff of the selected Universities in the field of NRM and ecotourism as well as training approaches, by incorporating various aspects of multidisciplinary knowledge systems. Business development and value chain approach will be incorporated in training and research.
Training content and approaches should respond better to labour market demand and pay more attention to gender aspects. Research will be enhanced by strengthening research skills and by incorporating interdisciplinary demand-driven action research methodologies.
The project will seek to stimulate operational and effective networking between the selected universities, TVETs and other partners to improve coordination and collaboration. It will also help the participating universities to implement ways to regulate and manage financing mechanisms, including consultancy and contract research.
Finally, HoAREC’s coordination capacity will be strengthened in order to improve coordination at the national level.
