This project has been developed by the Desert Development Centre (DDC). The tender for this project expired on 5 August 2011. Nuffic's Tender Evaluation Committee (TEC) has awarded this tender to the AERES Group, which has formed a consortium with Q-Point and Royal Tropical Institute (KIT).

Project description
Through agricultural and socioeconomic research, training programmes and community outreach services the DDC seeks to make the desert a viable and attractive place to live. DDC conducts applied research ranging from livestock development under desert conditions to testing the energy efficiency of buildings.
This project aims to contribute to delivering adequately trained human resources for the agricultural sector. It specifically aims to put in place a sustainable and practice-oriented agricultural training programme at DDC, which meets the demand for skilled labour among employers and farmers.
Outputs
The planned outputs include:
- A comprehensive curriculum with practical training modules
- Adequate facilities at the training centre
- DDC staff training
- An M&E system
- A network of stakeholders which assures the quality of the training programme and creates work opportunities for graduates
- A specific training programme for women
