This project has been jointly developed by Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU lead) and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC). The tender for this project expired on 18 September 2012. Nuffic has awarded this tender to the Centre for Development Innovation of Wageningen University (WUR), which has formed a consortium with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Project description

Food security is an important issue for the government of Bangladesh. In the process of achieving this goal, the government has formulated national policies for boosting agricultural production, protecting environment and sustaining natural resource base of the country.

The overall objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity for interdisciplinary agricultural education and research in the disciplines of crop, fish and water for sustainable food security in Bangladesh.

The specific objective is for BAU and BARC to develop and implement interdisciplinary education and research in the areas of crop, fish and water, taking into account gender and labour market needs.
