Project description
In 1988 Pathshala opened its doors thanks to a World Press Photo initiative. Since then, it has built a reputation as a centre of excellence in photography training. In March 2010 Pathshala expanded its curriculum with broadcast, print and multimedia journalism.
Through this project Pathshala wants to further professionalise with regard to:
- long-term planning and vision
- financial control
- monitoring and evaluation
- postgraduate programmes that promote independent, accurate and responsible journalism
Right to information
On 29 March 2009 the Government of Bangladesh adopted the Right to Information Act, which ensures free flow of information and people's right to information.
The Act is an opportunity to build a strong journalism sector and a strong civil society, which are key to good governance. Most Bangladeshi journalists have an academic background and are not trained as journalists. Improving their skills through formal training will benefit both the sector and the general public.
