Capacity building in higher education
International education programmes in Dutch partner countries.
Nuffic manages various programmes specifically aim to strengthen the performance of individuals, organisations and institutions in developing countries or to help them develop their capacities by extending their expertise, know-how and skills.
The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore finances a number of international education programmes for a number of developing countries with capacity development as the main objective.
Capacity building programmes
Nuffic manages the following capacity building programmes:
- NICHE aims to strengthen institutional capacity in 22 developing countries for institutions and organisations providing post-secondary education and training
- NPT aims to strengthen the capacity of post-secondary education and training organisations in 14 countries. The programme has now closed.
- NFP is a scholarship programme offering scholarships for short courses, master degree programmes and PhD studies offered by Dutch institutions. NFP focuses on mid-career staff in 62 countries and capacity building within their organisations.
- NFP Tailor-Made Training programme (TMT) specifially aims to improve the overall functioning of organisations by training selected groups of employees.
- StuNed aims to assist the development of Indonesia by strengthening staff of Indonesian organisations.
- Tempus is an EU programme which supports the modernisation of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects.
Priorities
The NFP, NFP Tailor-Made Training and NICHE programmes, pay special attention to Sub-Saharan Africa, gender and the needs of the labour market.
The actual knowledge and skills transfer and capacity building is achieved by providing courses, training and education to individuals, and through specific projects with partner organisations in participating countries.
