Mr Gert van den Berg

Gert H van den Berg (1947) started his career at AkzoNobel at age 26 and during the 39 years at the organisation he held many positions.

He started as a process technologist, continued in various positions in international marketing and in operations, before becoming general manager and SBU manager of several of AkzoNobel’s global businesses. 

Over the past few years he was HR director and in this role he built up a combined HR organisation for AkzoNobel in the Netherlands, which is now being used as a blueprint for other countries. Gert van den Berg recently concluded his career at AkzoNobel as chairman of the board of AkzoNobel Nederland BV and as supervisor for a number of foreign activities of AkzoNobel.

Until his retirement Gert van den Berg filled various roles including member of the board of management at the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO NCW) and the general employers’ association AWVN, and member of the board of the International Chambre of Commerce in the Netherlands.

He was recently appointed supervisor-consultant for a number of innovative growing businesses in the field of healthcare and IT. In addition, as part of his role as co-shareholder he provides support for the management of Hermes Catalysts, a small firm that is active around the world in the field of oil refining.
