Ms Hanneke Teekens

Hanneke Teekens (1949) was appointed Director of Information Services in 2007. Her responsibilities include the Nuffic Nesos, Study in Holland and international recognition.

Her first experience with the internationalisation of education was in 1966, when she spent time in the United States via an AFS student exchange programme. Hanneke Teekens studied history at Leiden University. She began her career in secondary education. After a few years abroad, she returned to the Netherlands in 1983 and worked as a lecturer at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam). She also worked for the post-doctoral teacher training programme at the University of Amsterdam from 1989 onwards.

After working for Nuffic and as advisor to the University of Twente for a short period in 1998, she joined Nuffic again in 2003, this time as Head of Internationalisation. In addition, she worked as Director of the National Socrates Agency and the Erasmus Mundus National Structure. She was also responsible for higher education activities under the Leonardo da Vinci programme.

In addition to her work as a lecturer and researcher, she has also been the coordinator of numerous international projects. She was involved in several European projects and managed a large number of bilateral projects in Eastern Europe and Asia, particularly in Vietnam. She is a regular guest speaker at seminars and international conferences.

Hanneke Teekens is Chair of the Association for Studies in International Education (ASIE), which publishes the Journal of Studies in International Education. She is a member of the Supervisory Boards of Esprit Schools in Amsterdam and the Foundation for Dutch Education Worldwide (NOB).
