Mr Joeri van den Steenhoven

Mr Joeri van den Steenhoven (1971) is an independent consultant on social innovation, education and society. He advises and supports governments, higher education institutions and NGOs. In this capacity he held the post of interim director of the Global Innovation Academy at the Young Foundation, a British think-tank based in London, until recently.

He is a (part-time) lecturer, amongst others at the Academy for Information and Management, part of the University of Amsterdam.

Until the summer of 2011 Mr van den Steenhoven was President and CEO of Stichting Nederland Kennisland, an organisation he co-founded in 1999. Kennisland is an independent think-tank whose mission is to strengthen the Dutch knowledge society.

For many years, he has been an active participant in the debate on knowledge and innovation in the Netherlands and abroad. As a student he was vice-chair of the Dutch National Union of Students (LVSb) and a policy advisor for International Affairs at the HBO-Raad ( the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences). He has long been involved in Dutch higher education.

Alongside his current position, Mr van den Steenhoven is a member of the board of the Lisbon Council, a European think-tank for a modern Europe. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, member of the Advisory Board of Actal and board member of Network Democracy.

He graduated in political science from the University of Amsterdam and completed the programme in Leadership Development at Harvard Business School. He lives in Amsterdam with his wife and two children.
